Press Release related to the Day of Mourning on 5 January 2025
The Government of the Republic of Serbia issued a decision to declare 5 January 2025 a Day of Mourning in the territory of the Republic of Serbia.
Since the entry into force of the Law on Amendments to the Law on Observing Days of Mourning in the Territory of the Republic of Serbia (Official Gazette of the RS, no. 30/10), the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media has been entrusted with the task of supervising the implementation of the provisions related to the programmes of radio and television media service providers.
The Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media points out that media service providers have the obligation to broadcast the decision to declare the Day of Mourning during the provision of media services. During the Day of Mourning, instead of humorous, entertainment, forced-environment reality, folklore and other content with pop and folk music, they are obliged to broadcast music and shows appropriate to the Day of Mourning and adjust the detailed programme schedule during the Day of Mourning.
On the occasion of the Day of Mourning, the Regulator will directly apply the provisions of the Law on Observing Days of Mourning in the Territory of the Republic of Serbia (Official Gazette of the RS, nos. 101/05 and 30/10).
In accordance with the provisions relating to the manner of observing the Day of Mourning, the Regulator recommends the broadcast of artistic and instrumental music in a minor key.
