REM at the 13th Annual Meeting of BRAF in Sofia

Representatives of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM) participated in the 13th Annual Meeting of the Black Sea Region Regulatory Authorities Forum (BRAF), held in Sofia, Bulgaria, from 16 to 18 September 2026.

The host of this year's meeting was the Council for Electronic Media of Bulgaria (CEM), and the central theme was Artificial Intelligence in Media and Regulation. The event brought together representatives of regulatory authorities from eight countries – Albania, Armenia, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Romania, Serbia, and Turkey.

During the meeting, participants discussed the impact and possibilities of applying artificial intelligence in the media sector, as well as the challenges that new technologies bring to the field of media regulation. Special attention was devoted to the issues of transparency, the protection of fundamental rights, media pluralism, disinformation, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence.

The participants exchanged experiences regarding the application of new technologies in the work of regulatory authorities, including their use in the monitoring and analysis of media content. The importance of human oversight and expert assessment was highlighted, as well as of ongoing regional cooperation in responding to the challenges brought by rapid technological development, with an important aspect being the enhanced activity of regulators in the field of media literacy.

REM's participation in the BRAF meeting represents an opportunity for the exchange of experiences and good practices with regulatory authorities from the region, as well as for gaining insight into new approaches to the regulation of the media sector in the digital environment.
