Eight towns in Serbia marked the Open Days of Media Literacy from 06 to 10 October 2025
This year’s fourth Open Days of Media Literacy held from 06 to 10 October 2025 brought together preschoolers from Belgrade, Novi Sad, Užice, Niš, Kikinda, Prokuplje, Ruma and Pančevo, who visited the media in their local communities.
The campaign titled Media with Wide Open Doors, which was conducted in eight towns of Serbia, targets preschoolers and aims to raise awareness about the way the media operate and function, and includes visits to the media and an opportunity for the youngest to get a glimpse into the world of journalism and the way news is made on television and radio, as well as to try their own hand at that role.
On this occasion, PE Transmitters and Communications and Naxi Radio from Belgrade, Radio Television of Vojvodina from Novi Sad, Radio Užice, Radio San and TV5 from Užice, Radio Banker from Niš, Ami Radio and Palas Radio from Kikinda, Radio Delfin from Prokuplje, Radio Sremac and Radio Fruška Gora from Ruma, RTV Pančevo from Pančevo, also joined the campaign.
The children had an opportunity to see what a live broadcast looked like, they tried their hand at the role of a host and a journalist. They also had the opportunity to learn about an important part of everyday information provision, but also the technical aspects of programme broadcasting, how television signals are created and transmitted – from the camera and tower to the screen.
As part of the Open Days of Media Literacy, the latest publication Media and Emotions was presented, which is intended for preschool and primary school teachers and expert associates working with children up to the age of 8. The publication was printed with the support of the Council of Europe under the project Protection of Freedom of Expression and Media in Serbia (PROFREX).
During the presentation of the publication in the premises of the Children's Department of the Belgrade City Library Čika Jova Zmaj, a workshop News Literacy through Board Games was held, which was conducted by the employees from this institution, on which occasion the attendees had the opportunity to play two board games, one of which serves to test knowledge, and the other to educate citizens in the area of newspaper literacy, as part of media literacy focused on a correct understanding of news.
