Statement following the Council session of 29 December 2008

The RBA Council adopted at its today's session the decisions on the issuance of 63 radio and TV programme broadcasting licenses for regions and local areas, including the City of Belgrade.

The Council members adopted the decision on the issuance of four TV broadcasting licenses and seven radio broadcasting licenses at the regional level, 25 licenses for TV broadcasting licenses and 27 radio broadcasting licenses at the local level.

Thus, the tenders for the issuance of radio and TV programme broadcasting licenses have been completed, with the total of 467 licenses issued since the beginning of the licenses issuance process.

The Council members adopted the decision to open RBA offices in several towns in Serbia next year, with the aim to increase the efficiency of monitoring of the broadcasters' operation in the regional and local areas.

The RBA Council terminated the procedure of license withdrawal before the expiry of the period for which the licenses were issued regarding three RTV stations which discharged their obligations related to the fee payment, whereas the procedure is in progress for another four broadcasters whose deadline for the discharging of their obligations is 22 January 2009.
